President to sign Jobs Bill that includes Highway Bill extension through Dec. 31, 2010
The Senate, on Wednesday morning, approved a $15 billion "jobs" bill that includes some provisions critical to the nation's surface transportation programs. President Obama is expected to sign the bill into law Wednesday. The bill will extend the current authorization through Dec. 31, 2010, giving congressional committees additional time to develop a long-term plan. In addition, the bill provides a one-time transfer of nearly $20 billion in previously foregone revenue to the Highway Trust Fund and additional transfer of funds to ensure highway program funding for 2010. The bill also features a tax incentive for capital purchases "Build America Bonds" to lower state and local borrowing costs for infrastructure projects.
