Workforce Development Committee
The Workforce Development Committee has representatives from all five industries that AEM represents. This group will steer all efforts and identify additional needs and opportunities.
Construction Challenge
AEM is working with Destination ImagiNation Inc. to develop and implement the Construction Challenge to help influence the future workforce. The Construction Challenge is part of AEM's ongoing efforts to attract the best and brightest young people to the construction industry specifically in manufacturing and in-the-field careers.
What is the Construction Challenge?
- An exciting and educational experience that brings together middle and high school students from across the United States and Canada to learn more about construction careers, construction equipment, creative problem solving and teamwork.
- There are two phases to the Construction Challenge: Regional Qualifying Rallies and the Finals Tournament.
- All teams must compete in the Regional Qualifying Rally in order to advance to the Finals Tournament.
- Each of the 15 Regional Rally sites will have 20 - 50, five to seven student teams, which is approximately 175 - 350 students.
- Only 50 teams will advance to the Finals Tournament in Knoxville, Tennessee on May 20-23, 2009.
The 2008 Construction Challenge started with five Regional Rallies, which took place on Saturday, January 12, 2008, in: Atlanta, Georgia; Glassboro, New Jersey; Dayton, Ohio; Greenville, Texas; and Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Out of the 152 registered teams or 700+ students, 51 teams or 300+ students advanced to the Finals at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2008 in Las Vegas, Nevada – March 10-14, 2008. The event was extremely successful for all parties, for more information go to www.constructionchallenge.org.
