The Workforce Development Committee has representatives from all five industries that AEM represents. This group will steer all efforts and identify additional needs and opportunities.
Construction Challenge
AEM has partnered with Destination ImagiNation Inc. to develop and implement the Construction Challenge. This event was developed to encourage the next generation workforce to consider a career in the equipment manufacturing industry. The inaugural event was held in 2008 and was a huge success, touching thousands of students. Check out video footage from the 2008 Construction Challenge.
2009 Construction Challenge
This year's competition is designed to engage middle and high school students with real-world experiences in the highly diverse construction industry. The three components to this year's competition are:
Infrastructure Presentation:
Teams will research infrastructure issues and their relationship with our quality of life
Manufacturing Design:
Teams will design equipment based on criteria and reproducibility in manufacturing
Service Tech Simulation:
Teams will develop and implement solutions to a simulated tech problem

Regional Rallies were held on February 7 and determined the top teams that will compete at the Championship Finals in Knoxville, Tenn. May 19-23, 2009. Winning teams will receive scholarships and electronic prizes.

AEM has partnered with the Associated Equipment Distributors (AED) Foundation and the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) to develop ConstructMyFuture.com, a website that provides information about careers opportunities in the construction industry. It targets students ages 15-19, parents, teachers and high school/technical college counselors.
