Regional Manager, State Government Relations (Northeast)

This is a remote position located in the Northeast region (NY, RI, ME). This position will support and execute various aspects of our state government relations efforts in the assigned region. The ideal candidate will have either worked in government relations for a trade association, industry group or firm, or in a legislative and/or communications capacity for a member of congress or state legislator.
Responsibilities:
• Develop and implement advocacy strategy for proposed state legislation and regulations
• Represent industry before lawmakers and external stakeholders
• Track, assess, and manage responses to proposed state –level legislative and regulatory proposals
• Plan, coordinate, and implement efforts to raise the profile of the association and the equipment manufacturing industry among state business groups, industry organizations, coalitions, and other key stakeholders in the assigned region
• Manage relationships with external partners, including state lobbyists, coalitions and state level political organizations such as Republican Governors Association (RGA) and Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC)
• Create collateral material, newsletter, blog and website content
• Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
A successful candidate will hold a BS or BA degree in a related field and will have 5-7 years’ relevant experience, having experience or knowledge of the manufacturing industry is desirable. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate:
• The ability to absorb and analyze complex policy issues in a fast-paced environment
• Knowledge of state legislative processes, procedures, rules, and calendars
• Effectively manage several work streams simultaneously
• Work efficiently and collaboratively with AEM member companies, staff and external stakeholders
• Superior organization, communication, multi-tasking and project management skills are critical.
• Being a self-starter and the ability to work independently
