Kip EidebergDeputy Secretary of Agriculture Xochitl Torres Small joined more than 12,000 visitors on the National Mall for the 2024 edition of AEM’s Celebration of Agriculture on the National Mall.

The Deputy Secretary kicked off the three-day event with remarks from the Main Stage, toured the exhibit, and visited with equipment manufacturers to learn how the latest innovations and technologies will help build a sustainable future of safe and abundant food, fiber, feed, and renewable fuel.

While on the National Mall, Deputy Secretary Torres Small got a first-hand look at the latest agriculture equipment, including Precision Planting’s Radicle Agronomics™, the world’s first fully automated soil laboratory that delivers fast, accurate, and cost-effective results that take soil nutrition measurements to new levels. The Deputy Secretary also checked out John Deere’s 616R Sprter with See & Spray™ Ultimate, which uses computer vision and machine learning to target spray weeds in season in corn, soybeans, and cotton, and Lindsay Corporation’s Zimmatic 9500 Series Center Pivot, which helps growers ensure more sustainable and efficient water usage and management.

"Rural America is hard at work, producing the food, fiber, and fuel our nation relies on,” said Agriculture Deputy Secretary Xochitl Torres Small. “President Biden's historic investment in rural America supports that work all across our country, through real-life solutions to decades-old challenges like bringing high speed internet to communities across the country, updating waste-water infrastructure, delivering climate smart solutions that increase revenue, and increasing competition through more and better markets. I am proud to join the Association of Equipment Manufacturers today to lift up the great work our rural communities are doing to make our nation more resilient and competitive."

The Deputy Secretary wrapped up her visit with a discussion with AEM’s Kip Eideberg about a range of topics, including what the Biden administration is doing to help promote the adoption of precision agriculture technologies, what must be done to give people more options to live, work, and raise the next generation in rural America, as well as her own work to connect every community in America with affordable, reliable, high-speed internet.
