U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg will join the Association of Equipment Manufacturers and Punchbowl News on Tuesday, May 4 at 11:30 a.m. ET for a virtual event discussing President Biden’s American Jobs Plan and the current debate in Washington about the potential for sweeping infrastructure legislation in 2021. As Punchbowl News describes it, President Joe Biden's American Jobs Plan is “the most ambitious infrastructure plan in U.S. history” and something Sec. Buttigieg will “play a key role in helping sell it to lawmakers and the American public.” Sign up here to watch.
The event will also feature a discussion between Punchbowl News founders Anna Palmer and Jake Sherman and AEM Infrastructure Vision 2050 Task Force Vice Chair and Husco CEO Austin Ramirez about what equipment manufacturers want to see included in a comprehensive infrastructure package. The conversation will touch on the need for bipartisanship, as well as the equipment manufacturing industry’s efforts to advance a forward-looking national vision for how to build a modern, sustainable, and equitable infrastructure for all Americans.
The event comes just over two weeks after Ramirez joined the Brookings Institution in launching the new report Rebuild with purpose: An affirmative vision for 21st century American infrastructure, and will take place just days before the start of “Infrastructure Week,” which is scheduled for May 10-14. Rebuild With Purpose was made possible by vital funding by the Association of Equipment Manufacturers, which has also announced its commitment to a set of national policy priorities to revitalize the infrastructure systems that move the American economy.
Punchbowl News was launched earlier this year and is a daily newsletter focusing on Congress but also covering the White House and “K Street.” Since its launch, it’s newsletter and events have become must-read / must-see content in Washington.
