ISO/TS 15143-4: ISO Worksite Data Exchange
The scope of this document includes the requirements for data exchange at the interface between earth- moving machinery, as defined in ISO 6165, mobile road construction machinery, as defined in ISO 22242 and the worksite information system. This part of the ISO 15143 series includes: the specification of server-to-server data communication, the definition of data elements and file definitions for worksite descriptions, such as: task execution descriptions, periodic progress monitoring and as-built descriptions.
ISO 15143-4: Worksite Topographical Data standard enables vendors of various grade control systems to efficiently interoperate on the same worksite while enabling end users to manage an entire jobsite from their preferred Site Management System (SMS), reducing costs, enabling faster execution, and increasing jobsite efficiency, all leading to improved ROI.
The scope of the standard includes earthwork, grading, and compaction. The scope of the standard currently does not include surface paving, robotic total station interfaces, or a requirement for on-machine and field equipment to directly use ISO LandXML.
The ISO working group, which has been developing the standard since 2018, is comprised of many AEM member companies, including OEMs, SMS and Vendor Integration System (VIS) providers.
One goal for the working group has been to define a standard where existing solutions, perhaps with a software update, could be made easily interoperable and compliant with the standard. For specific details on how to implement within your fleet, talk with your provider.

The working group and supporting implementers have used Slack as a platform to pose questions related to implementation details. Please feel free to use this platform to pose any questions you might have about interpretation of the standard: https://join.slack.com/t/iso15143-4/shared_invite/zt-2r5aqq7y9-jKvf1Plq7uVsOODjb72QoQ. Please note: this is not an official ISO support venue, rather a community of implementers sharing ideas and questions.
While AEM supports standards development through a variety of organizations, AEM does not maintain standards. ISO/TS 15143-4 is currently maintained by Japan Construction Machinery and Construction Association (JCMA).
JCMA, the maintenance agency for ISO/TS 15143-4, maintains changes and updates to the standard. To propose an update to the standard, contact JCMA.
