Regulatory Agencies Celebrate Construction Equipment on the National Mall

This year’s Celebration of Construction on the National Mall proved once again to be a major draw for both administration officials and career staff looking to expand their knowledge of the construction industry. Four months into the new administration, the event attracted a wide array of regulators from agencies that oversee the off-road equipment sector.  

“The timing could not be better,” said AEM Senior Director of Regulatory Affairs Nick Tindall. “We were able to get in front of the new administration to have in-depth discussions on worker safety, broadband, emissions technology, and so much more.”  

Nearly a dozen senior agency officials were in attendance, including:

  • U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Secretary Sean Duffy
  • U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer
  • U.S. Small Business Administrator (SBA) Kelly Loeffler
  • Federal Communications Commissioner (FCC) Anna Gomez
  • Peggy Browne, Acting Assistant Administrator at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Office of Water
  • Alex Krutz, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Manufacturing at the International Trade Administration, a bureau of the U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC)
  • Alexander Dominguez, Deputy Assistant Administrator for Mobile Sources at the EPA Office of Air and Radiation
  • Lynn Dekleva, Deputy Assistant Administrator at the EPA Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention
  • James McHugh, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy at the DOL’s Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) 

In addition to political appointees, career staff from the EPA, Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA)and Department of Energy (DOE) were in mass attendance. Staff explored exhibits about how safety is designed into construction equipment, the latest in engine emission controls, alternative power sources, and how the Toxic Substances Control Act impacts American competitiveness. 

As agencies begin to ramp up regulatory activity, the three-day event provided a platform for exhibitors to directly engage with key stakeholders about barriers to safety, innovation, and sustainability, as well as educate them about how the industry is making progress in these three key areas.
