As part of AEM’s ongoing advocacy efforts and partnership with our Canadian member companies, AEM Director of Government Affairs in Canada Alexandre Mattard-Michaud joined MacDon Industries on Oct. 16 in hosting MP Doug Eyolfson at the company’s Winnipeg, Manitoba facility.
During MP Eyolfson’s visit – his second tour of the manufacturing facility – he discussed sustainability efforts and ongoing challenges facing equipment manufacturers in Canada, including supply chain disruptions and rising input costs. The One Canadian Economy Act, which AEM has endorsed, was also highlighted for its potential to reduce interprovincial trade barriers.
“It was a pleasure to visit MacDon Industries again and see firsthand the innovation driving their advanced manufacturing processes and world-class agricultural equipment,” said Dr. Doug Eyolfson, Member of Parliament for Winnipeg West. “I was particularly encouraged by their commitment to continuous improvement, their skilled workforce, and their leadership in strengthening Canada’s manufacturing sector. Working together with AEM and industry partners, I remain committed to supporting initiatives that foster competitiveness, sustainability, and growth for equipment manufacturers in my constituency and across the country.”
“We appreciated MP Dr. Doug Eyolfson’s visit to MacDon and the opportunity to share how our team is driving innovation in products and manufacturing that deliver value on farms globally,” said Kurt Buhler, group president at Linamar Agriculture – MacDon Industries Ltd. “His support for Canada’s manufacturing sector, including a commitment to competitiveness and sustainability, aligns closely with the values that help us grow. As members of the Association of Equipment Manufacturers, we believe collaboration between industry and government is a benefit to our businesses and the communities where we work. It is also key to strengthening North America's leadership in equipment manufacturing.”
Earlier that day, Mattard-Michaud took a tour of Buhler Industries’ Winnipeg facility and met with company leaders to discuss shared advocacy priorities.
“Buhler Industries is proud to work alongside the Association of Equipment Manufacturers to advance the priorities of our industry in Canada,” said Grant Adolph, Chairman of the Board and COO at Buhler Industries Inc. “We are deeply committed to continuous improvement and cross-sector collaboration to strengthen Canadian leadership in ag machinery – both across North America and on the global stage. Strategic investments, predictable trade policies, and infrastructure modernization are essential to empower manufacturers to innovate, compete, and grow – ensuring long-term economic resilience and job creation in communities.”
The visits follow AEM’s recent announcement that it is expanding its presence in Canada with a new Ottawa office.
